Hello, I’m Sophie, the Owner of Pawsitive Pet Services.
I have over 10 years of experience working with animals, however my passion started from a young age through reading books, watching David Attenborough documentaries and fawning over my Cocker Spaniel, Lucy. It was in my late teens that I realised I could have a career with animals, and I embarked on a National Diploma in Animal Management where I gained a Triple Distinction grade.
I decided to further my education by completing a BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour and Welfare where I gained a First Class grade. The course provided me with a sound knowledge of animal care topics including: domestic and wild animal behaviour, positive reinforcement animal training and animal health.
During my studies, I had the opportunity to complete long term work experience placements in multiple zoos, wildlife parks and animal rescue shelters. My main interest in the field of animal studies is animal behaviour and training, so I tailored these placements to my interests. This led to me caring for a huge variety of species including: assisting in the training of California sea lions, flying parrots and birds of prey, rehabilitating injured wild European hedgehogs and undertaking behavioural observations of dogs in rescue centres.
After graduating from my degree, I took on a diverse range of roles in the animal care sector, including: working in a pet shop, delivering talks as a zoo presenter, working in a cattery, and teaching college students theoretical and practical animal care. I also worked at a children’s farm where I looked after over 100 birds and other livestock in my role as Head of Poultry.
In 2018, I made the decision to start Pawsitive Pet Services, so that I could share my knowledge and expertise of pet care and behaviour with owners across East Hertfordshire.
When I am not working, I enjoy travelling, wildlife watching, playing board games and fussing over my cockatiels, Fish and Chip.
